Backup & Recovery

We help set up infrastructure backup and recovery so that recovery is predictable, regularly verified and clearly proprietary covered.

What we typically deal with

  • deposit policy (what, how often, retention)
  • recovery procedures (runbooks, responsibilities, testing)
  • resistance to ransomware (immutability, separate access rights)
  • regular recovery tests and evaluation of results

Why is it important?

Backup is not about "we have a backup". It's about that we can restore, when something happens. Incident, ransomware, application bug or hardware failure — without recovery, the impact is profound.

Examples of damages: ransomware encrypts data and demands a ransom, a faulty update damages data, the server goes down and the question is how quickly you can restore it.

What it involves

  • Backup strategy: what, how often, how many versions and where
  • RPO (Recovery Point Objective): how much data can you afford to lose
  • RTO (Recovery Time Objective): how long recovery may take
  • Storage: backup repository, deduplication, encryption, redundancy
  • Tests: regular recovery tests to confirm they are working

Typical scenarios

  • Without deposits: urgent minimal backup and recovery setup
  • Weak backups: backups exist but are not tested, redundant or documented
  • Compliance: the audit wants proof that you have backups, tests and documentation
  • Hybrid: on-prem backs up to the cloud or cloud to on-prem

Questions to consider

How often do we make backups?

At least once a day, more often for critical systems. It depends on the RPO.

Where are backups stored?

Ideal for multiple locations: on-premises, in the cloud and off-premises. Everything in one place is a risk.

How to test recovery?

A regular test in the test environment, where not only data recovery, but also the usability of the system will be verified.

How do we protect backups from ransomware?

Separate access, immutable storage, anomaly monitoring and reasonable isolation from production.

How we work

Assessment: we'll find out what backups you have, how long it takes to restore and what the main risks are.

Proposal: backup strategy, RPO/RTO, storage, retention and disaster recovery plan.

Setup & testing: configuration, recovery tests, documentation and team training.
